FAQ

WHERE IS THE SCHOOL PROGRAMME RUNNING?

We are working in sixteen Secondary and Primary schools across Lewisham Borough. The impact and success of the programme in Lewisham has led to Southwark asking us to expand the programme with schools across it’s Borough.

WHAT IS THE PROGRAMME?

Social action & intervention programmes that enable young people to succeed academically. Providing pupils and schools opportunities to lead and build safer and stronger communities.

IN A SENTENCE WHAT DO YOU DO?

Simple, proven and effective Social Action projects, designed organised and led by the pupils. Empowering children, democratising social action and building a sustainable legacy for Jimmy, one school at a time.

HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU WORK WITH?

The programme works intensively with 25-30 young people in 20 sessions over a six month period.

WHAT ARE THE RATIOS?

We never work above a one-to-five ratio. A typical staff team will be seven staff to 25 pupils.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL SESSION LIKE?

One-to-one and small group work sessions, with whole group and team activities at times during the session.

WHO ARE YOUR TEAM?

Our team of 20 comprises of experienced teachers, youth workers and peer mentors.

WHERE DO THE SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?

Three of the days are: Houses of Parliament & London visit for pupils, Community Visit & Event Day. These by their nature take place outside of the school. The other sessions run in your school - a large informal teaching space, or two classrooms.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE AND MONITOR?

Pupils are formally monitored throughout the programme, all reporting shared with the school. Baseline Key Stage Levels, attendance, punctuality, behavioural incidences, staff observation and pupil self evaluation.

CAN WE USE YOUR RESOURCES?

We have OFSTED standard Lesson Plans, Resources and Teaching Guides for all our programmes and Social Action Modules. Our Safe Havens For Jimmy resources will be available online and are being rolled out nationally within the next year.

WHO DO YOU WORK WITH IN THE COMMUNITY?

All programmes will engage with relevant (to the Social Action Project) community partners: Police, Fire Brigade, Faith Groups, other local schools, Cllrs, local MP, Young Mayor’s team.

DO YOU SUPPORT THE SCHOOLS OPEN DAYS AND PARENT EVENINGS?

We build a partnership with the school so supporting you is already built into the programme. With project photos, videos, updates, newsletter content, school assemblies, school displays and open day and parents evening project stalls.

DO YOU PRODUCE A PUPIL PREMIUM REPORT?

We prepare formal and comprehensive Social and Academic Impact Reports. These are of course shared with the school for internal and external use - Pupil Premium Spend Evaluation Report and Intervention Evaluation Reports.

WHO DO YOU LIAISE WITH AT THE SCHOOL?

Building a strong working relationship with your School Project Lead - ideally a Head of Year or member of the Senior team.

MEDIA TEAM

Website, newsletter media contact at school to provide you with content, photos and video.

ADMIN TEAM

Safeguarding & Administration, to provide you with our DBS & permission letters and risk assessments for the programme and visits.

ENGLISH, MATHS & PHSE HOF’S

At project initiation we would ask to meet with your HOF’s to ensure that the English & Maths skills and content we deliver are supporting in class curriculum for that year group.

DO YOU INVOLVE PARENTS AND CARERS?

Key to the programme’s success is the inclusion and partnership of the pupils community - we organise a ‘Meet the Mentor’ Parents/Carer Evening.
